There is a little village on the
Akrotiri peninsula in NW Crete just 12 km east of the old Cretan
capital of Chania. In this quiet rural setting is a small group of
self-catering apartments known as Tersanas Village apartments. Built in
1991 they are owned and run by the Pantzelioudakis family together with
the nearby taverna. The family has built up a well-deserved reputation
for their friendliness, helpfulness and the provision of a relaxing
atmosphere in which to enjoy your holiday. The apartments are set on
level ground on the side of a hill. This delightful situation affords
spectacular and panoramic views both the sea and the mountains and from
this unique vantage point you can view the most magnificent
sunsets-hence the name of our restaurant!
This picturesque location
also ensures that our guests can have peace and quiet when they want it
yet still have the convenience of a large bustling town like Chania
within 20 minutes' drive. With a pool and taverna so ideally situated
and a little beach just a stroll away, you may decide to stay put for
the whole of your holiday! Should you feel like trying your hand at
something more active there is plenty to do on the Akrotiri and further
a field, plus of course the longest gorge in Europe!
The Apartments are furnished to a high standard with traditional
painted furniture and all of them have at least one terrace or balcony
with their own tables and chairs, and a separate bathroom with shower,
washbasin and WC.
All bed linen, hand and bath towels are provided and changed twice weekly.
All apartments are air-conditioned and equipped with TV. set and small safe for your valuables.
The pool has an adjacent shallow area for children. It is reserved
exclusively for the use of guests staying at Tersanas Village. Sun beds
and parasols can be found around the pool for the use of guests, and
there is a small bar serving drinks, snacks and ice cream.
The apartments are surrounded by landscaped gardens that have been
planted with a rich variety of trees, shrubs and flowers. These include
mimosa, fig, oleander, hibiscus, palms, the ever-present olive,
begonias and bougainvillea. There is also wild thyme, fennel and
rosemary growing nearby and in the early spring the irises, gladioli,
sun roses, and many more wild flowers fill the local pastures and
mountainsides.
The Sunset Taverna is very handily situated across the garden from the
pool and is open every day for lunch and dinner. Its high standard of
authentic Greek cuisine is renowned. It is a popular eating place on
the Akrotiri with both holiday makers and local residents for it is
here that traditional Cretan dishes are prepared freshly each day by
Maria to her own family recipes using local produce. There is a wide
selection of dishes to choose from for both meat eaters and vegetarians.
Tersanas beach with its little pink snack bar is about ten minutes'
walk down the hill. It is sandy, safe and clean. Also within easy
traveling distance are Blue beach. Stavros and Kalathas beaches. A few
minutes' walk away is the little village of Horafakia with two more
tavernas, a small supermarket from which to purchase all the
essentials, a bakery and a garage. Here you can catch the local bus
that makes a round trip between Chania and Stavros.
